You must be able to demonstrate an ability to fulfill the NWT Permit Requirements, and:

1. For a Class 1 permit, the applicant must have:
   • A University degree with a major in Archaeology or Anthropology.
   • 2 years fieldwork experience in northern archaeology (this includes the northern parts of the provinces).
   • Exceptions on a case-by-case basis may be considered.
2. For a Class 2 permit, the applicant must have:
   • A minimum of a Masters degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.
   • Three years fieldwork experience in northern archaeology (this includes the northern parts of the provinces), or two years fieldwork experience in NWT archaeology.
   • Within the last 10 years, must have undertaken Class 2-type archaeology in a northern setting.
   • Exceptions on a case-by-case basis may be considered.
